From Starry Skies Descending

On the occasion of the 270th anniversary of the first publication of the most beloved Christmas Song, tenor Lamonarca recorded a new official version in three languages of the song “Tu Scendi dalle Stelle” (From Starry Skies Descending)

The song

The song ‘Tu Scendi dalle Stelle’ is the Italian Christmas song that I learned by heart as a child. It means a lot to me because it brings back memories that I have never forgotten.

Every Christmas Eve, my mother Anna would keep me awake until midnight, when we would both celebrate the birth of Jesus and sing this beautiful song together. Immediately afterwards, she would invite me to open my hands to receive the baby Jesus, and I would place him in the manger of the nativity scene that she and I would build every year right after the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. That shared ritual was and will forever remain the experience that seals my Christmas bond with her.

The music video depicts the birth of Jesus as if in a dream. It is a dream that involves two people: myself, remembering those moments from my childhood and the path that leads me to record the song in New York, and Saint Alphonsus Maria de Liguori, whose visit to the Grotto of San Felice di Corsano was the inspiration for its composition.

My hope is that through this song, which I recorded in English and Spanish, many more families around the world will come together with renewed hope for a better world.
